COURSE DETAILS:

The GIQ Coal Surface (Standard 11) course is a necessity for any individual working in the Queensland Coal mining industry. This course replaces the previous GI course and is in accordance with Recognised Standard 11 for training in coal mines, as set by the Queensland Mining Safety Inspectorate.

The purpose of this course is to introduce the students to the following components of the mining industry:

  • General Mining Overview
  • Legislation
  • General Safety
  • Managing Workplace Hazards
  • Risk Management
  • Isolation and Tagging Procedures
  • Traffic and Mobile Equipment Procedures
  • Emergency Procedures
  • Life Saving First Aid
  • Fire Fighting & Fire Prevention
  • The Environment
  • The Work Process

Course Modules:

RIIRIS201D - Conduct local risk control
Hazard ID, risk assessment and control in a mine environment

RIIERR302D - Respond to local emergencies and incidents
Prepare and respond to emergencies in a mine environment

RIIGOV201D - Comply with site work processes/procedures
Access and apply site safety procedures, apply personal safety measures, maintain personal wellbeing, and complete site related forms and reports

RIIWHS201D - Work safely and follow WHS policies and procedures

RIIERR205D - Apply initial response first aid
Assess the situation, apply basic first aid and complete incident reports

RIICOM201D - Communicate in the workplace
Identify, access and use site communication equipment and systems, carry out work related communication, and complete written documentation

Students gain firsthand experience from our instructors with extensive industry expertise and experience and work through a series of real life scenarios.

Each participant MUST:

Attend the course in appropriate attire. Because this program exposes participants to live fire exercises, participants are asked to wear long sleeve, high-vis shirt and long pants (natural fibres only) and safety boots.
